Stockport County earned a 2-0 away victory against Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday. Jason Adigun and Che Gardner found the net late in the match to confirm the win and maintain their chance of advancing in the tournament.

Stockport controlled the game at the Meadow. They created many more attempts on goal than their opponents and held most of the ball. The opening goal arrived when Mikael Mandron assisted Jason Adigun. Later, captain Lewis Fiorini set up Che Gardner to score a second and clinch the result.

Shrewsbury manager Gavin Cowan selected a team with many young players from the academy. This included Hugo Aiston, the club's youngest-ever player, who made his first start, and Ollie Hall, who made his debut. The home team did not manage a single shot on target during the game.

Stockport's next match is a return to League One action at home to Barnsley this Saturday. This win marks their third victory in their last five games in all competitions.

The FA has charged Stockport County with a breach of its rules following a pitch invasion after May's play-off semi-final win over Stevenage. The club must respond by 10 October. The Hatters, currently 5th in League One and on a two-game winning run, host Barnsley next.
