Stockport County will open a new County Store in the heart of Stockport town centre. The club announced the expansion to Mersey Square on Tuesday, establishing a permanent retail presence amid the area's ongoing regeneration.

Gavin Bailey, the club's CEO, said the move strengthens supporter links. "We’re delighted to be opening another County Store in the heart of Stockport town centre," Bailey said. The ground-floor corner unit at the front of Merseyway will stock official merchandise, exclusive products, and new ranges. It will also serve as a ticket outlet and a meeting point for fans.

The new store complements the existing shop at Edgeley Park and aims to make it easier for supporters to connect with the club. It joins a retail environment that has seen significant growth, with Merseyway recording its highest ever weekly footfall of over 250,000 visitors this summer. New arrivals like Søstrene Grene and Lovisa have expanded the centre's offer, and the County Store will sit alongside major brands including JD Sports and Primark.

Cllr Micheala Meikle, Stockport Council's Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Skills, welcomed the investment. "Stockport County means a great deal to so many people, so it is brilliant to see the club bringing a new store into the town centre," Meikle said. The store is seen as a vote of confidence in the town centre, which is undergoing a £2bn programme of regeneration. Major plans are in place to transform Mersey Square and the nearby Bear Pit into a greener, safer public space.

The club's commercial push comes as the first team enjoys a strong start to the League One season. Stockport County currently sit third in the table with 13 points from eight games. Their recent form includes a 1-0 home win over Peterborough United last Saturday, with Kyle Wootton scoring the decisive goal. Supporters can check the full schedule of upcoming games, including a home fixture against Barnsley on October 10th, on the club's fixtures page.

Further details about the new County Store, including its opening date and operating hours, will be confirmed in due course. The club stated it wants the outlet to feel "unmistakably County" and will continue to develop its retail offering. This expansion builds on strong relationships with local businesses and aligns the club with Stockport's wider story of growth and investment.
