Stockport County have signed goalkeeper Oliver Whatmuff on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City. The 18-year-old joins having played under Hatters boss Jimmy McNulty during his time with Rochdale last season.

What happened?

Whatmuff played in 38 National League games last term and kept 18 clean sheets as the club fell just short of the league title but then went on to achieve promotion back to the English Football League through the play-offs.

Why it matters for Stockport County

He saved two spot-kicks as Rochdale beat Boreham Wood at Wembley, capping off a remarkable debut season in senior football. Jimmy McNulty said: "Before working with him at my previous club, I believed he was an elite goalkeeper, and now after working with him for the season, that belief has only grown."
