Stockport County is making a significant impact through its Community Trust, which focuses on bringing people together and creating opportunities through football. The Trust runs disability football programs, including County Comets for ages 8–16 and County Stars for ages 16 and up. Each week, these programs provide inclusive and empowering football sessions for disabled individuals in Stockport, fostering growth both on and off the pitch. Participants have the chance to compete in Cheshire FA’s inclusive Ability Counts fixtures, showcasing their skills and teamwork. Over the past year, Stockport County has supported more than 100 individuals through these initiatives. Shaun Taylor's journey exemplifies the transformative power of these programs. Joining County Comets at just ten years old, Shaun, who has cerebral palsy, has grown in confidence and skill, eventually moving to the County Stars program. His dedication has inspired him to become a volunteer coach, helping others on their football journeys. Recently, Shaun was honored with a VIP experience at Wembley, where he enjoyed a stadium tour and met talent before the match. This recognition highlights the contributions he has made to Stockport County as both a player and a mentor. Matti Oates, Disability Coordinator at Stockport County Community Trust, emphasizes the importance of supporting participants to reach their full potential, both in football and in life.
