Stockport County have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Ben Osborn on a one-year contract for the 2026-27 League One season. The 31-year-old was a key player during his loan spell last campaign, making 45 appearances and scoring twice as the Hatters finished third in the table with 77 points (22W-11D-13L).

What happened?

Osborn joins Stockport after his contract at Derby County expired. The midfielder had been a free agent this summer but chose to return to Edgeley Park, turning down other offers. Stockport head coach Jim McNulty praised Osborn's versatility and selflessness, highlighting his experience at higher levels.

Why it matters for Stockport County

Osborn's return strengthens Stockport's midfield ahead of the new season. His familiarity with the club and League One will be valuable as they aim to challenge for promotion again. Last season, they scored 71 goals and conceded 58, finishing 26 points behind leaders Lincoln.

What comes next?

Stockport will host Wigan Athletic in their next fixture on 13 February 2027. Wigan finished 16th in the table last season. Osborn's first appearance could come in that match as Stockport look to build on their strong 2025 campaign.
