Stockport County face Plymouth Argyle in League One season-opener
Stockport County are set to face Plymouth Argyle in their League One season-opener at Home Park. The Hatters will be looking to bounce back from last season's play-off final defeat as they take on the Pilgrims in their first game of the new campaign.
What happened?
Plymouth Argyle are beginning their 2026/27 League One campaign by playing Stockport County at Home Park this afternoon. The Pilgrims actually started their season on Monday night when they beat Exeter City 2-0 in the Carabao Cup first round at the Theatre of Greens. Added time goals from Alex Hartridge and Bim Pepple sealed Argyle's passage into round two of the competition, which will see them host newly-promoted Premier League club Coventry City on Tuesday, August 25.
Why it matters for Stockport County
The Hatters will be looking to bounce back from last season's play-off final defeat as they take on the Pilgrims in their first game of the new campaign. Stockport County began their season at home to fellow League One side Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup and following a 1-1 draw after the 90 minutes they were beaten on penalties.
What comes next?
The Hatters will be looking to get off to a strong start in the new season and will be hoping to pick up all three points against Plymouth Argyle. The match will be a tough test for the Hatters, but they will be confident in their ability to bounce back from last season's play-off final defeat.
